Beartooth Highway

31 03 2009

I’ll be doing a lot of driving. To avoid monotony, I’m going to try to take a route that goes on many All-American Roads, which are roads that are particularly scenic or historic (none in Texas). Perhaps the most badass of these roads is the Beartooth Highway. This road is so scenic that it’s only open during the summer (it’s actually for safety reasons).

In a couple months I’ll have my own pictures to share.

A Formidable Hike

30 03 2009

For the trip, my friend Chris recommended that I go on a hike to Angel’s Landing.  He almost went when he was 10 because his family went to Zion National Park in Utah, but when they got to the start of the trail, they wouldn’t let him go due to his young age. You can see why below: (keep reading)

Now, I have a pretty serious fear of heights. Last weekend I went to Enchanted Rock (pictures below) with Mikayla, Reid, and Tara, and I found myself pretty fearful at times. If you’ve ever been to Enchanted Rock, you’d know that it’s not scary. So how will I survive this hike? I probably won’t. We’ll see. By the way, if you know of a place that would be cool to visit, leave a comment and I’ll try to go there. If I end up going there, I’ll take pictures and write about how it went, so think of good places.

(I’m not in any of these photos, by the way)

Next post I’ll be going over how I’m going to sleep in my ’96 Honda Accord for 3 months. Stay tuned, yo.

Pictures after the rain

27 03 2009

Yesterday there was a big storm that rolled through Austin. When the sun eventually came back out, I went outside to snap a couple pictures.

Street after storm

Luckily our cars and house were safe from the hail. Many people in the area spent their nights contacting their insurance companies about broken skylights and windshields.

The standard “first post” post.

This is the beginning of what will hopefully become a regular thing for me.

Starting this summer, once I graduate high school, I’m hopping in my car and heading west out of Austin to wherever the road takes me. It should be a good time. After that, I’ll be looking for suggestions from you guys to create the rest of my trip. Any kind of suggestion, from “go to Seattle” to “climb a mountain” is welcomed.

But for now I need to graduate, so I’m off to do some homework…
